Jenner Block is the hostel block that I was given. All rooms are single occupancy with non-air-conditioned and non-attached bathroom. Besides, it's ten minutes, in rough, walk from J block to the academic block of INTI-IU. We really get to walk thousands of steps daily over here!

An award ceremony for the lecturers organized by the LEO Club of INTI-IU where all of us from OLE attended after our brief session of first day orientation. This was where we got to have a glimpse of the faces of our would-be lecturers of certain subjects. Breeziness in that huge MPH (Multi-purpose Hall) really made me shivered terribly. All performances were great with good effort put onto. Thus, the cheering and clapping here and there did help made me felt a little warmness. In a nutshell, all arrangements from escorting the VIPs into the hall to serving after-ceremony nibbles were good. Except for the fact that the hall was not full house.

We were writing our Malay essay in the exam hall (SPM trials) on 1 September when Mr Lau, our ever-beloved class teacher drew this piece of artwork on the cover of a test pad.

Out of 37 of us, Mr Lau drew only 9 of us. And I must say, I'm contented that I'm included!

I'm the one surrounded by letters of THE BEST GRADE.

Mr Lau must be expecting me to get an A for my Malay paper. Thank you, Sir!

Hopefully I will score as I've been getting an A all along. But it was tougher this time.

But I must have disappointed Mr Lau for not getting 1 for Math. I missed by 0.02%.

Kelly's Sweet Seventeen

Kelly oedered 46 chocolate cupcakes for RM50 from Jauhara for the 37 of us in 5 Kekwa and some other friends of hers from other classes.

Each cupcake was coated with over-sweetened pink, yellow or white sugary cream. And ''KELLY IS SEXY'' was written on each of them.

She gave us during recess and to some of the teachers who teach 5 Kekwa.

Although they're really fattening and have the potential to make us grow vertically, but I ate it without thinking twice! I had two, instead!

For they're just too tempting that made me craved even more for such sweet nibbles! Look at their striking colours!

Out of 46, only 2 of them were written ''KELLY IS 17". But they're for her beloved parents, of course!

Transformers 2 has been on cinema for a month and 11 days since it was released on 24 June. I strongly believe that at least three quarter of the population (who live in the city) in Malaysia have watched it. Some might have even watched this renowned movie twice, thrice or even more. But sadly, I've only watched it once.

Do you still remember some of the attention-grabbing, side-splitting scenes or momentous, unclean quotes? How about some of the terms used in the movie? Now that Transformers 2 is no longer on cinema(Ipoh), unless we've the DVD/VCD, we can't watch it any more. I mean the 150 minutes movie, not the trailer.

MC Interact Installation Day + Fifth Former Farewell

We were told that we're about to have the best Installation Day this year, like ever. Usually, there is no need for us, the fifth formers, to pay for registration fee. However, it's compulsory for us to do so this year. Goodbye to RM5.

Initially, I thought it was totally nonsense that we got to pay RM5 just for some fried mee and curry puff. But then later, the truth has revealed. I was entirely stunned as I entered the hall. One whole stretch of red carpet lying in the middle of the hall with some cylindrical lamps ornamented with bouquet of artificial red roses along the red carpet. No wonder the theme was Red Carpet and Movies. About the theme Movies, you'll find out as you scroll down. Besides, we're seated at a table of 8 each.

So now we know the reason. Those decorations must have cost a lot. Overall, I had a good time there other than getting Merit Cert and one of the Most Outstanding Award. On top of that, it was so-called Friendship Day. Thank You SMI, Tasek school and Anderson for joining us in this little ceremony. No exceptional to MC girls, too. You guys made our day!!

I suppose most schools at North Kinta district have sent 8 representatives of their own to the camp and so the teachers must have photostatted for the students. However, if any of you would like to have a copy of the booklet because you have none, feel free to drop a comment and I'll make a copy for you. (Condition : Provided there's a way to pass the copy to you and that you pay for it, no exception to anyone.)

Pictures were only taken when the teachers went for refreshment whilst students were given only a High-5 chocolate-creamed bun and a mineral water (the one with a straw, not bottled).

My Money-Can't-Buy Crystals

DIY (if only you're interested) :

1. Boil an amount of water in a steel container.
-which can withstand 100 Degree Celsius-
2. Off the gas.
3. Pour salt into the water and stir it.
4. Keep adding salt until it can no longer dissolve.
5. Add in colouring (power form) of your choice into it and stir it.
-adding liquid form will dilute it-
6. Place the container at where you think it's suitable.

-I put it in my room-
7. Leave it for a day, or a few.
8. Pour out the water.
9. The crystals formed will be settled at the bottom.
10. Remove all crystals onto a piece of paper.
-preferably filter paper-
11. Let the crystals dry.
12. Lastly, do what you wanna do with your home-boiled crystals.
-I made a heart shape, but I got to keep them eventually-

Our Last Chemistry Experiment - Saponification

+ 10 ml of palm oil into beaker.
+ 20ml 5 M NaOH into beaker.
Heat & stir.

Boil 10 minutes.
Stop heating.
+ 50ml distilled H2O + 3 spatulas NaCl(s) into mixture.

Cool to room K.

Filter product.

Wash residue(s) with little distilled H2O.

Ipoh International Run

IIS is way easier to say as it's more familiar, to me. I've never gone for IISR so I have not said it before, never before. It was my first time ever. Thanks to Sham who asked me to go, forced me perhaps?

I was not registered as the reason I went was to run with Sham. But I left her and ran alone. I had no intention in going after all. Because I don't run. What more international run where people across the globe would be there.

Praveena didn't make it for the run as it was raining cats and dogs in the morning. She couldn't run under the rain as she wasn't feeling well. But thanks to her for her registered number I've used it which enabled me to be one of the eligible ones to get a certificate and also a medal. Because we got to be registered runners.

Sham and Prem got me the piece of cloth with coloured-ink-pen-written number on it - J 011 - Praveena's number. They went to the booth - where participants collected their tees - to report the lost of number. I am thankful to them.

As it was previously stated, I do not run. I repeat, I do not run. I've never joined running for school sports, never ever. I jogged throughout the 7km runway. Yes, non-stop.

At times I felt like giving up and to just walk till the finishing line. I was exhausted, according to my subconscious mind. Adding to that, the rain made I felt cold. My white tee was drenched with rain water instead of sweat (luckily I have my number cloth to cover my not-to-be-seen part). But I did not shiver. I just felt cold, very cold. My hands were cold but red, indicating there was still blood circulation despite the cold surroundings.

Feeling lethargic I was. But God was with me telling me to hold on. I looked up into the clear blue sky. I saw hope. I saw the strength in me. I saw God. I held on. If I were to stop to walk on the pathway, I would never regain my momentum, my constant velocity.

And finally, I made it till the end of the run. I was the first 183 participants who reached. I was thrilled as I read 'please claim your medal at the medal booth' at the back of a small card given to the first 200 runners. I've succeeded. Thank you, Almighty. And you, too. Thanks for the 'all the best ya for the run and enjoy yourself k :) ' wish early in the morning at 0534 when I've just reached Sham's house. Your wish meant a lot to me, a whole lot. Thank YOU!!

The route of 7km run

After Prem went home, Sham and I went to the hawker stalls area to search for stall #36 for prawn wan tan. It was a quite famous one which I read in Ipoh Echo. And since I've not tried prawn wan tan, although Sham has.

Some prawns just didn't want to be wrapped.

It cost us RM 4.40. We both shared as it was 1130 and later we would have our lunch - Sham's mom's cooking. Curry oh curry, just so yummy!

5km, 7km, 7km, 7km, 21km

Free certs were given out just like that! But I was honest enough to just grab the 7km one. I was pissed when they say only 150 out of the 200 were entitled to receive the cert and also a medal when I went to the booth. They announced 200 of us would be getting initially. Not enough certs as an excuse and they're giving out free certs to others. Nonsense! But fortunately, God is just. I got my cert and also a medal, although I've got to be in the crowd to grab the cert.

Why was I one of the participants? Well, don’t get me wrong. I’m neither the great one nor the most proper one but for the reason it coincided with our mid-term examinations - very crucial - so I’m there, by faith. What’s the connection? Nevermind.

Of course, it’s the very first time I’m there in Parade not to hang out, but to join a state level competition organized by The STAR and RHB Bank. Perhaps it’ll be the very last time as well. We’re tested on Mathematics and Science, ie Bio, Chemi, Phy, and also General Knowledge. The questions were tricky. Almost every answer made sense to us. Well, to me.

It’s was a good experience, if not better. It boosted us into studying mood. Besides that, we got our certificates, a notebook each, MacDonald’s burger for breakfast and Ayamas chicken rice for lunch. My group was in the 1^st round which all questions were so much better than the 2^nd round but we screwed up. Sorry. The outcome? We got merely 14/19.

Without a doubt, it’s really important to be calm and steady during that very moment. If not, even a simple math question can’t be solved, like number 5. It’s a Physics question actually. None of the others knew how to solve but I calculated wrongly thus giving the wrong answer at the eleventh hour. Blame myself for being careless.

We almost emerged as the top 15 groups to get to the second challenge but we didn't, unfortunately. The 7th to 15th place groups had the same points as us. No doubt we're slow in submitting our answers. Because the time we pressed our key pads was taken into account.

A: Racing taxis. Noisy cars. Rushing here, rushing there, rushing EVERYWHERE! Immature road bullies, who smash windscreens and bones. While hooting, honking drivers impatiently groan. Speedsters who turn highways into F1 tracks! Fleeting motorcyclist who zigzag their way to death. *SSSUUUZZZUUUKKKIII* *CRASH* *BOOM* *BANG*
D: “Oh my gosh! Is that blood?!?!?!”
E: “Call the ambulance! Call the ambulance!” (Ambulance siren)
A: Motorists suddenly slow down. Necks outstretched, eyes affixed.
D: Whatever for?
A: “Just to note the number plate for a lottery win!”

B: “Mummy, mummy, do you want me to sit or stand on the toilet?”
C: “No, no darling. At home you sit outside you stand.”
A: Ahhh…Public toilets…Can’t live with them…Can’t live without them! Malaysians are somewhat unclear, about what goes into where. A peep into public toilets, confirms your worst nightmare…

A: The same applies to rubbish. Public places also known as common litter grounds. Everybody’s property!
B: Nobody’s baby!
C: Why do you litter?
D: To defy the law. Why bother what I saw?!
E: Someone will pick up after me. I’ll just pretend I didn’t see!
A: But who will pick up in our homes? Our home is our castle…A refuge from the life’s bustle.

A: Malaysians…We love to eat. We chew and crunch! We chomp and munch!
E: Ymmm...yum…
A: Through the feast of food, we have the spiciest, sweetest, saltiest…The most bitter. The most sour. High-teas and buffets galore…Bring eaters to the fore…Pilling their plates with so much food. Still, they come again! For more and more and MORE! Just to get their money worth. The result…? From size S to M…M to L…L to XL…XL to XXL…XXL to…Obesity, diabetes and heart diseases!

Malaysia…situated at the line of Khatulistiwa…high humidity and temperature year in year out it has become a tourist spot for foreigners across the globe. Yet Malaysians complain about how very sizzling hot blazing sunlight 24/7, containing ultraviolet rays penetrating our largest organ. Hoping the sun would just shut down, even just for a split second. The fear of getting spot-lighted by the hazardous UV rays causes Malaysians to do their best to shun skin-to-sun contact, even for a second. Moreover, a layer of shade is considered inadequate. Thus, results in more-than-one-layer-shading. Picture: Instead of stopping their cars where they were supposed to, they’ve chosen a nice sheltered and out-of-the-sun spot whilst waiting for the traffic-light to turn green, not to mention the motorcyclist as well. Malaysians are just being smart, perhaps.

Youth Leadership Challenge By Sunway University College

Well, we heard about rumour saying that the Youth Leadership Challenge will be held at SMI instead of Sunway University College in KL, a few days before the event. And just a day or two before Saturday, we confirmed that it’s definitely going to take place in the school hall of SMI. Perhaps by doing this, we can reduce the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere because if we were to travel to and fro, 4 buses will be used as there were 140 students plus some teachers. Lots apologies, from each and everyone of us, to the International Chess Club of SMI for occupying the hall and informing at the eleventh-hour thus the venue of the De La Salle Chess Competition had to be changed.

It’s indeed a great experience to have the chance to participate in this competition. The lectures, slide shows, movies, activities, sharing etc were awesome. Miss Wong was our speaker and two of the facilitators were Alvin and Steven. There were four more but I can’t recall their names as Alvin was the one who carried out the ice-breaking session with us whilst Steven was the one who briefed us before the two activities we had. Others were just helping out with the computer, projector, giving out pamphlets and so on.

MC has sent two teams namely SMK Convent (A) and SMK Convent (B) (image).

At the very beginning, everyone was given an egg to take care of throughout the activities of the day. Wherever we go, whatever we do, we must carry them wit us as we’re learning how to be a parent for it’s our so-called babies.

To make it short and brief:

Ice-breaking session – Our shoes were jumbled up in the middle of the circle of every group. Then, we were required to grab a pair of shoes with different shoes for both sides (left and right) which were not belong to us and wear them on. Stand side-by-side with the one wearing the same shoes as ours and jumped together. Shoes were returned to the owners and we were all blended with the smells of others.

Activity 1: Crab Walk (image) – In a group of 10, 5 of us were blind-folded. And our legs and hands were tied. The odd-numbered ones had their right hands and left legs tied whilst the even-numbered ones had their left legs and right hands tied to one another. We were not allowed to walk on feet throughout the activity from station to station. So, we decided to move with our knees.

Brunch: We had packets of bihun with fried eggs plus prawns and fish slices. The taste wasn’t bad.

Activity 2: Tornado (images) – This time we did with our own schoolmates, our original team – SMK Convent (A). We were in 5 pairs and required to walk through obstacles like crossing over the tables, putting red beans into a bottle with chopsticks and crossing over chairs with the balloons still intact between our body parts like head, back, shoulder, legs, buttock according to the piece of paper we’ve drawn. Then, we had to reach the final line with our feet on two mats, the ten of us.

When it came to the time of counting the eggs, SMK Convent (A) had 5 eggs left, including mine. MGS had 10 eggs left, meaning all 10 of them managed to take good care of their babies, but they got booed by some of the students. I don’t know why they did such act and I don’t think there’s anything wrong by having all 10 eggs with them. Whether they had their own strategies or they disobeyed the rule by keeping them in their bags during the vigorous activities we did, we never know. Frankly, it’s embarrassing and disappointing to see such attitude we have in ourselves. What with the booing when you didn’t even manage to take care of yours? Were you feeling jealous of others for being able to be such a responsible one? Learn to be one if you’re not and stop the habit.

However, one of the MGS girls came to admit that one of their eggs wasn’t theirs. According to her, it belonged to one of her group members when he/she asked to keep during the first activities when we had the activities with our group members consisting 10 students from different schools. It means they have 9 eggs remained.

Lastly, before we leave the school, we were briefed on our assignments which consist 40% to be handed in by 5pm on 10 April via mail or fax.

And our scores board (image) was shown on screen. Our marks - SMK Convent (A) - were 26.5.

In a nutshell, everyone benefited from the activities we did, be it the games, lectures, slide shows or movies. Too bad I didn’t snap every slide as I’m afraid they’ll confiscate my camera. Copyright reserved? Well, they didn’t mention. So, I can’t really remember every single thing that was taught today, to be honest enough. One thing I know for sure that will really have an impact on my way of looking at life is that everything in life is in our hands; it’s our choice. And it’s never too late to apologies if we have done any mistake. We can cheat on our dad, mom, pals, teachers and others but there’s one person that we can’t cheat on, not the almighty God but it’s our true selves. Leaders, be a role model and lead your people to be a better leader than yourselves. Last but not least, I’m sure everyone of us enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

InteYo Members’ Day - Darul Hikmah Orphanage

It was a Sunday. We called on Rumah Anak Yatim Hikmah located at Kampung Itek, Gopeng. The objectives of having this visit are to know on how an orphanage is being run and to bring cheer to the less fortunate. The orphanage is a Muslim-based home for orphans and underprivileged children. They have 20 primary, 10 secondary school kids and 1 little girl at the moment. The others are all boys. It is a non-governmental home, mainly funded by public donations. Everyone had their own so-called adik. We had group dynamics: singing ‘Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, MacDonald’ with actions, sharing about ourselves, passing rubber bands with straws in the mouth, ‘Let’s Walk’ (using 4 hands and 11 legs in a group of 12 to reach an end), and ‘I Care’ (one-to-one chat with an individual home resident). After two of the group dynamics, we had our tea break then proceeded to the hall for the next activities - InteYo Cheer and a comedy sketch presented by some of the youth followed by the singing of 'Kau Ilhamku' together with the kids. We bid goodbye to them then headed to Adeline Rest House. There, we had our lunch and shared about our experiences. Some of the orphans were very open-minded whilst some were not. We had to gain their trust by telling them some of our details as well then they would only tell us about their details which were more personal. Some even cried when they told us about their families, about their parents, especially. After that, we departed back and reached Family Health Association at Taman Cempaka at 1500. Adikku, Zulhilmi is a thirteen-year-old boy and just moved into the orphanage two weeks ago. He’s studying in Form One. He’s ~~FOC~~ friendly, outspoken and cute. He’s the only son. He got 2Cs (both BM papers), 2Ds (English and Science) and 1E (Mathematics) for his UPSR last year. However, he has gotten better results for his recent monthly test – a B for Mathematics and C for English. A thumbs-up for him. He has a very nice voice. He could say my name really clearly and unmistakably. And I like it! Till the day we see again. Image: Zulhilmi.
