Students by Mr Lau Yoong Fuei

We were writing our Malay essay in the exam hall (SPM trials) on 1 September when Mr Lau, our ever-beloved class teacher drew this piece of artwork on the cover of a test pad.

This is the 3rd masterpiece of his that I've uploaded. Click here and here.

Out of 37 of us, Mr Lau drew only 9 of us. And I must say, I'm contented that I'm included!

They are Boshini, Yoga, Sara, Ghirijah, Kalai, Grace, Sham and there's one more I have no idea who is it.

I'm the one surrounded by letters of THE BEST GRADE.

Mr Lau must be expecting me to get an A for my Malay paper. Thank you, Sir!

Hopefully I will score as I've been getting an A all along. But it was tougher this time.

But I must have disappointed Mr Lau for not getting 1 for Math. I missed by 0.02%.

Did Mr Lau's masterpiece amaze you?
Are you gifted in drawing?

I am inspired even more by Mr Lau now. Anyway, I'm only gifted in colouring!

P.S. Happy 20092009, everyone!

Aquatic Organisms by Mr Lau Yoong Fuei

Mr Lau came into the class. He asked Sham to follow him to the staff room.

En route to the staff room,

Mr Lau : You must motivate you friends so that they will score well like you.

Sham : Huh?

Mr Lau : You must tell them the right thing so that they will do the right thing, too!

Sham : (Wondering) What is he talking about?

Mr Lau : (Reached his table in the staff room) Nah, take this (Mr Lau's art work) back to class and read aloud to all of them. Make sure they get motivated!

Sham : (Phew) (In class now) Girls, Mr Lau has something to say.

"To all in 5 Kekwa, life is like living in an ocean, survivor of the fittest! Each organism below bears your name. Find it!"

(Everyone rushed to teacher's table and started finding)

After that,

Sham : Are you all motivated by him, his artwork?

Girls : Yes!!!

Yoga : Yes, I'm! Although he spelt my name wrongly! (Mr Lau spelt Goga)

Mr Lau's piece of fine art. He even included his name (bottom left) and we've darkened it! Spot mine!

PS Here's another piece of drawing by Mr Lau.

MC Interact Installation Day + Fifth Former Farewell

We were told that we're about to have the best Installation Day this year, like ever. Usually, there is no need for us, the fifth formers, to pay for registration fee. However, it's compulsory for us to do so this year. Goodbye to RM5.

Initially, I thought it was totally nonsense that we got to pay RM5 just for some fried mee and curry puff. But then later, the truth has revealed. I was entirely stunned as I entered the hall. One whole stretch of red carpet lying in the middle of the hall with some cylindrical lamps ornamented with bouquet of artificial red roses along the red carpet. No wonder the theme was Red Carpet and Movies. About the theme Movies, you'll find out as you scroll down. Besides, we're seated at a table of 8 each.

So now we know the reason. Those decorations must have cost a lot. Overall, I had a good time there other than getting Merit Cert and one of the Most Outstanding Award. On top of that, it was so-called Friendship Day. Thank You SMI, Tasek school and Anderson for joining us in this little ceremony. No exceptional to MC girls, too. You guys made our day!!

The pathway to heaven

Red & Black

Rotarian Wu Chee Tat (Unsure with the spelling)

Out-going President - Li Tng

Banner with faces

Foot-autograph

The other 4 Most Outstanding Award recipients were Sham, Prem, Kumutha and Raeshma.

Paper 1 -

  • Questions - 20-20 (F4-F5)
  • Ratio - Easy:Medium:Hard - 5:3:2 - 20:12:8(number of questions) - if we manage to score at least 33/40, give ourselves a thumbs-up.
  • Scan through Sejarah text book(s) daily before bed to help us get to our dreamworlds sooner. They will eventually accumulate and stored in our brain.
  • Maximum 2 same answers one after another. Example:
1. A
2. A
3. A

This will never happen for questions set by the Lembaga Peperiksaan.
Recheck all 3 answers if this were to happen.

Paper 2 -

  • Section A : 1&2 (F4) 3&4 (F5) , Section B : 5&6 (F4) 7, 8, 9 (F5)
  • Tema 1 - F4 : Bab 1, 2, 3 (1 question - Structur/Essay)
  • Tema 2 - F4 : Bab 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (2 questions - 1 Structur & 1 Essay)
  • Tema 3 - F4 : Bab 9, 10 (1 question - Structur/Essay)
  • Tema 4 - F5 : Bab 1, 2 (1 question - Structur/Essay)
  • Tema 5 - F5 : Bab 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (2 questions - 1 Structur & 1 Essay)
  • Tema 6 - F5 : Bab 9 (1 question - Structur/Essay)

Structur -

  • a&b (Knowledge) c&d (Understanding) e (Moral Value)
  • Recall the sub-topic.
  • Use simple, straightforward answers; easily understood.
  • Marks will be given as long as the sound is there (eg nama tokoh)
Eg : On Jaafar instead of Onn Jaafar
But this is wrong and never ever make such mistake - Jaafar Onn

  • Write down as many answers as you can - provided the space is enough, never write the answers at the bottom of the page when the question (eg c) is in the middle of the page.

Essay -

  • Understand the question.
Eg :

1. Terangkan cara pertembungan Islam dengan tamadun lain di dunia. (F4-B6)

2.Terangkan cara penyebaran Islam di Asia Tenggara. (F4-B7)

  • Jelaskan - only Fakta (eg isi-isi perjanjian)
  • Terangkan - Fakta + Huraian (eg faktor)
  • Huraikan - Fakta + Huraian + Contoh
  • Bandingkan - use manakala as kata hubung when comparing differences
  • All must be in complete sentence. No point form, table, mind map, etc.
  • Draft before writing.
  • Preferably 1 isi 1 paragraph (ie Fakta + Huraian + Contoh in 1 paragraph)

P.S. Do leave a comment if you're unclear with any details.

Adding to the above details, we, the participants, were given a 33-pages booklet each which contains never-asked-before and also long-since-it-came-out F4 & F5 questions, arranged in chapters.

I suppose most schools at North Kinta district have sent 8 representatives of their own to the camp and so the teachers must have photostatted for the students. However, if any of you would like to have a copy of the booklet because you have none, feel free to drop a comment and I'll make a copy for you. (Condition : Provided there's a way to pass the copy to you and that you pay for it, no exception to anyone.)

Pictures were only taken when the teachers went for refreshment whilst students were given only a High-5 chocolate-creamed bun and a mineral water (the one with a straw, not bottled).

A snippet of appreciation :

Although I was away from school, I didn't have to worry about school for I was kept informed with school works and crucial details. Here, I would like to thank Praveena, Prem and Kalai for leaving a small little piece of note for me in the cupboard of 5 Kekwa with my exercise books .This has enabled me to take notice of all that I've missed once I was back to school, to class. Thank You.

People's Puzzle By MC Interact Club

Well, I managed to captured almost every slide as I was sitting quite front of the hall. The seminar was organized by the Rotary Club of Ipoh and MC was chosen as the host. The number of participants was 288 including us from MC. How proud could we be. And it was indeed a good one!

Personality Test
(do it and you'll have a rough idea of your true self)

DISC Assessment:

The assessments classify four aspects of behavior by testing a person's preferences in word associations (compare with Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). DISC is an acronym for:
  • Dominance - relating to control, power and assertiveness
  • Influence - relating to social situations and communication
  • Steadiness (submission in Marston's time)- relating to patience, persistence, and thoughtfulness
  • Conscientiousness (or caution, compliance in Marston's time) - relating to structure and organization

These four dimensions can be grouped in a grid with D and I sharing the top row and representing extroverted aspects of the personality, and C and S below representing introverted aspects. D and C then share the left column and represent task-focused aspects, and I and S share the right column and represent social aspects. In this matrix, the vertical dimension represents a factor of "Assertive" or "Passive", while the horizontal represents "Open" vs. "Guarded".

  • Dominance: People who score high in the intensity of the "D" styles factor are very active in dealing with problems and challenges, while low "D" scores are people who want to do more research before committing to a decision. High "D" people are described as demanding, forceful, egocentric, strong willed, driving, determined, ambitious, aggressive, and pioneering. Low D scores describe those who are conservative, low keyed, cooperative, calculating, undemanding, cautious, mild, agreeable, modest and peaceful.
  • Influence: People with High "I" scores influence others through talking and activity and tend to be emotional. They are described as convincing, magnetic, political, enthusiastic, persuasive, warm, demonstrative, trusting, and optimistic. Those with Low "I" scores influence more by data and facts, and not with feelings. They are described as reflective, factual, calculating, skeptical, logical, suspicious, matter of fact, pessimistic, and critical.
  • Steadiness:(Submission in Marston's time): People with High "S" styles scores want a steady pace, security, and do not like sudden change. High "S" persons are calm, relaxed, patient, possessive, predictable, deliberate, stable, consistent, and tend to be unemotional and poker faced. Low "S" intensity scores are those who like change and variety. People with Low "S" scores are described as restless, demonstrative, impatient, eager, or even impulsive.
  • Conscientious: (Compliance in Marston's time): Persons with High "C" styles adhere to rules, regulations, and structure. They like to do quality work and do it right the first time. High "C" people are careful, cautious, exacting, neat, systematic, diplomatic, accurate, and tactful. Those with Low "C" scores challenge the rules and want independence and are described as self-willed, stubborn, opinionated, unsystematic, arbitrary, and careless with details.
